CRWP/CGRESD PD 2010-11 PD Series
Chippewa River Writing Project and Clare Gladwin RESD Present: “Teaching Writing for Middle School and High School Students”
Our students face complex demands as personal, academic, and professional writers in the twenty-first century. Additionally, MEAP/MME/ACT data indicate the need to explicitly teach writing to all students. To respond to these needs, we invite 7-12 ELA teachers to think about what it means to be a writer and a teacher of writing in the context of writing workshop instruction, writing-on-demand assessments, common core standards, and an increasing array of digital tools for producing and distributing writing.
In this series of workshops, teacher consultants from CMU´s Chippewa River Writing Project will lead participants through practical examples of writing instruction for the twenty-first century, including ideas on how to help students develop topics, revise their work, and use digital writing tools, such as wikis and digital stories. Between the scheduled sessions, participants will collaborate in a Moodle course site, discussing shared readings such as Penny Kittle´s Write Beside Them: Risk, Voice, and Clarity in High School Writing and examining examples of student work.
All workshops take place on Mondays, 4:15 – 7:45 PM. Workshop Dates:
- October 18, 2010
- November 29, 2010
- January 10, 2011
