Be a Teacher AND a Published Writer

A 2010-11 Continuity Event/Series Sponsored by CRWP

Have you always wanted to publish an article in English Journal or the Language Arts Journal of Michigan, but you weren’t sure how to get started or wondered what the submission process would be?  This series of CRWP continuity events is the perfect opportunity!  Our group will meet five times face to face and/or remotely over the 2010-11 school year, and the goal is to help every group member write and submit an article for publication.  Best of all, the program is free to you as a CRWP teacher consultant!

Tuesday, October 12 at 5:00 PM (location TBA) is the inaugural session, and we will be reviewing a manuscript currently under consideration for publication in English Journal.  To conduct the review, the group will examine the “call for manuscripts,” consider an evaluation rubric and writer’s guidelines created by English Journal editor, and then have an informal, roundtable discussion about the manuscript in question.  The session will be informal and fun, and it will provide hands-on, practical information about publishing requirements for English Journal and other teaching journals—an excellent step in eventually writing our own manuscripts for submission.

In the remaining five sessions (February 12, March 8, April 12, May 10, and June 14), participants will have the opportunity to review additional EJ manuscripts, but the primary focus will be creating our own manuscripts and supporting each other as writers:  brainstorming topics, writing drafts, providing/receiving feedback, and preparing manuscripts for final submission.

Liz Brockman, Debbi Meister, and Beth Nelson are facilitating this CRCWP series, “Be a Teacher AND a Published Writer.”
